The Encounters with World Literature is a series of author readings, which is organized in cooperation of Prague City of Literature and The Museum of Czech Literature and its goal is to introduce the contemporary world literature. There are various authors regularly introduced, speaking about their latest work and their current project, who are here as creative residents of Prague City of Literature.
The readings are always done bilingually, in the original language, whatever it may be, and in Czech. Examples of works are introduced, always also in translation. Interpreter leads a discussion with the author and the occasional invited guests of the reading. Oftentimes, there is an actor reading the excerpts in Czech translation, and of course a chance to ask the writer or the invited guests questions or just spend this way an evening in the space of the Museum or outside in its the gardens, when the weather allows, drinking good wine, listening… perhaps also to a language you haven't heard yet, perhaps to a slowly dying or downtrodden language, perhaps to a language well in bloom, perhaps to all of that at the same time.
Their work have already introduced Liam Pieper, Sarah Perry, David Howard, Tetiana Okopna, Alejandro Pedregosa, Dominika Słowik, Bergrún Íris Sævarsdóttir, James Hopkin, Nives Vidrih, José Luís Peixoto, Juana Pabla Bertazza, Michael O’Loughlin, Oleh Kotsarev, David Whiteman, Encarna Castillo, Jaroslav Kalfař, Iryna Zabiiaka, Amir Or, Mieze Medusa, Richard Fidler, Caya Makhélé, Joanna Lech and Justin MacGregor.
