José Luís Peixoto was born in 1974 in Galveias, Portugal, and had his first novel published 16 years ago. That same novel was awarded with the Jose Saramago Literary Prize, which is awarded every two years for the best novel written in all Portuguese-speaking countries. That recognition gave him the opportunity to dedicate himself fully to writing. Since then, he’s developed a wide variety of projects related to literature in the most diverse areas.
Besides his novels and published works, which are originally published in Portugal and Brazil and translated into several languages, he also writes columns for three monthly magazines or newspapers and collaborates with several artists, creating many types of written work. His novels have been awarded nationally and internationally and have been praised in places such as: The Guardian, The Independent, Times Literary Supplement, New York Times, Le Monde, Figaro, El País, La Repubblica, to name a few.
On his Prague residency stay he worked on his new novel and gain inspiration for his character set in Prague. Also, he gained contacts for Czech translations. After the stay he planned to write about Prague for Volta ao Mundo and Viagem e Turismo, Portugese and Brazilian travelogue, for which he’s the regular correspondent.
José Luís Peixoto also said he would write some lyrics for Camões House Band, so we recommend checking them out and waiting for their new songs: https://institutocamoes-praga.cz/…-house-band/.
